Three Overlooked Peacock Films to Enjoy This Weekend (May 16-18)
Spotlight on Weekend Movie Picks
It was one of those lazy Saturdays when I found myself aimlessly scrolling through Peacock, trying to decide on a film. Normally, picking something isn’t such a hassle because the streamer doesn’t refresh its collection all that often. But this weekend turned out to be different. The news of the John Wick series being available in its entirety had my heart doing little somersaults. It’s the first time all four films have graced a single platform, making it somewhat special.
Now, you might think this calls for a movie marathon – and why not? Watching Keanu Reeves as John Wick is always a treat. Still, the Watch With Us team thought it best to mix things up a bit. Besides, I must admit that sitting through four action-packed movies in one go might be too much even for me – and possibly for my couch too.
Alongside our nod to John Wick, there are two underrated gems in the lineup that deserve attention. First up, there’s a romantic comedy-drama starring Rebecca Hall and Dan Stevens. Their characters, Anna and Will, seem to have it all figured out until a suggestion from Will’s friend turns their relationship upside down. It’s curious how just one seemingly innocent idea – testing waters before settling down – can unravel things so quickly. Anna finds herself intrigued by Dane (Francois Arnaud), while Will tumbles into an unexpected fling with Lydia (Gina Gershon). Whether they can find their way back to each other is anyone’s guess.
This tale is streaming on Peacock, if you’re curious about how it all unfolds.
Next on the list is a comedy that allows Zoey Deutch to shine brightly. In what could be her most hilarious role yet, Zoey portrays Peg Dahl – a woman driven by ambition and perhaps a touch of rebellion. She’s willing to play fast and loose with morals to break free from her circumstances. After a stint in jail, she finds her niche as an exceptional debt collector – good enough to stir up the local scene by starting her own agency. It’s all fun and games until her previous employers come knocking for payback.
The film’s cheeky plot and Zoey’s spirited performance make it a fun watch and can be caught on Peacock.
The anticipation surrounding John Wick doesn’t stop at existing movies; plans for future chapters continue to stir conversation among fans and critics alike. According to Empire Online, there might be more in store for the franchise – though this chapter seemed like an ending of sorts, with John confronting his fate at the hands of Marquis Vincent Bisset de Gramont (Bill Skarsgård). Despite his friend’s betrayal, John keeps his cards close with Winston Scott (Ian McShane) by his side.
This weekend certainly offers more than its usual share of movie magic on Peacock. Whether you’re diving back into the chaotic world of assassins or exploring tangled relationships and comedic escapades, there’s something here for everyone who loves cinema – or just needs a good excuse to kick back and relax.
