Knicks legend Chris Childs hesitates to label Kylie Jenner as a good luck charm during the playoffs.
The Knicks and Their Celebrity Fans
There’s something almost electric about being courtside at a basketball game – especially when the stakes are high, like during the playoffs. Lately, Kylie Jenner has become a familiar face among the fans cheering for the New York Knicks, sparking a swirl of chatter. The team’s recent playoff run has been thrilling, but not everyone is rushing to call her their good luck charm.
Chris Childs, a former Knick, shared his thoughts in an interview with TMZ Sports. “Come on, now,” he remarked when asked about Jenner’s supposed influence on the team’s success. “That’s reaching a little too far.” I couldn’t help but think he might have a point – it’s not like Kylie’s sinking three-pointers.
At a recent game, Jenner sat courtside with her boyfriend and devoted Knicks supporter, Timothée Chalamet. Their presence was noted during the Knicks’ thrilling Game 4 victory over the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference semifinals. But for Childs, the real magic happens on the court. “If anybody’s a good luck charm,” he pointed out, “it’s the players… Jalen [Brunson] and Josh [Hart]… they’re the ones that have to get out there and get the job done.” Wise words from someone who spent five seasons with the team.
Meanwhile, Chalamet has been drawing comparisons to other notable Knicks superfans – but can he really be put in the same league as someone like Spike Lee? Childs seemed hesitant to make such a leap, noting that while Chalamet has been around a couple of years, Spike Lee’s loyalty spans decades. Yet, I suppose every superfan has to start somewhere.
The spotlight on Chalamet brings with it its own perks. As Childs mentioned, being seen front-row at Madison Square Garden boosts one’s brand significantly. “Knicks front row… TV… boyfriend of one of the Jenners…” It’s all part of the spectacle. And perhaps that’s just part of why we love these games so much – it’s as much about what happens off-court as it is about what happens on it.
Interestingly, former Knicks star Amar’e Stoudemire doesn’t share Childs’ reservations. Speaking with TMZ Sports, he praised Chalamet’s dedication. “He’s like the next Spike Lee,” Stoudemire enthused. “We appreciate that… To see fans who really appreciate that goes a long way.” There’s something heartwarming about such praise – genuine admiration for someone sharing your passion.
The Knicks fan base is diverse and dedicated – celebrities like Tracy Morgan, Ben Stiller, and Susie Essman regularly join Chalamet and Jenner courtside. It’s almost like they’re all part of some extended family gathering. They rally together to cheer on their team at Madison Square Garden, where Game 6 against the Celtics will soon unfold.
This basketball saga continues to captivate – each game offering another chance for unexpected twists and unforgettable moments. One thing’s certain: whether you’re sitting courtside or watching from home, there’s nothing quite like being part of Knicks fandom.
