A chilling incident emerged from New York City’s bustling SoHo district as two individuals were taken into custody on Friday, accused of the kidnapping and torture of an Italian tourist. The NYPD is digging deep into this disturbing case, which has left both locals and tourists on edge.
John Woeltz, a 37-year-old crypto investor originally hailing from Kentucky, was seen being led away by officers, barefoot and clad in a white bathrobe. His arrest took place at a home on 38 Prince St., where he was charged with several serious offenses: two counts of second-degree assault, first-degree kidnapping, unlawful imprisonment, and criminal possession of a firearm. A judge ordered Woeltz to remain incarcerated and surrender his passport.
The plot thickened on Saturday when Beatrice Folchi, 24, was also apprehended. Hailing from Manhattan, she faces charges of kidnapping and unlawful imprisonment. Despite her arrest, the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office chose not to prosecute her immediately, citing the need for further investigation. According to police sources, the victim arrived in New York from Italy on May 6 before heading to the suspect’s SoHo residence. It’s reported that he endured up to three weeks of captivity and torture before managing a dramatic escape. His plight came to light when he flagged down a traffic agent who promptly alerted the authorities.
Upon entering the residence, officers discovered numerous Polaroid photos depicting the victim’s ordeal, as well as various items allegedly used for torture. A firearm was also visible among the chaotic scene inside. As the investigation progresses, police have identified two butlers at the residence who may hold critical information about the events.
