Russell Wilson Intended to Remain Single for a Decade Before Meeting His Wife Ciara
Russell Wilson’s Path to Love
There’s something about those unexpected turns in life that catches our attention. And in Russell Wilson’s case, his journey with Ciara seems to be one of those tales. It’s a story that makes you think about the curious paths we sometimes find ourselves on. Once, on Carmelo Anthony’s “7PM in Brooklyn” podcast, Wilson took a moment to share this unexpected chapter in his life.
After getting divorced from Ashton Meem in 2014, Russell thought he’d take a long hiatus from romance – a self-imposed break that was supposed to last about ten years. “I had a whole plan,” he reminisced, reflecting on the notion of being single for a decade. It’s funny how plans can change when life throws you a curveball.
Just one year into his proposed sabbatical, everything shifted when he met Ciara at a University of Wisconsin basketball game in 2015. “She changed everything,” Wilson said, with a sense of awe still evident in his voice. Perhaps it was meant to be… or maybe it was just one of those serendipitous moments that make life so unpredictable.
Before their paths crossed, there was an interesting conversation between Russell and his pastor, Judah, during a church service. The term “non-negotiables” was brought up – not originally related to relationships, but it somehow struck a chord with Wilson. This led him to ponder over what truly mattered in a partnership.
He shared with Pastor Judah how the word resonated with him deeply: “You gotta have non-negotiables,” Wilson emphasized, likening marriage to “a business deal.” A bit unconventional, sure – but in Russell’s view, establishing core values seemed essential for a successful partnership.
Together, they crafted a list of five non-negotiables for a future partner. Key qualities included someone who is “a believer,” “faithful,” and would love him as his mother loved his father. They sealed this exercise with prayer. Then came the twist – just three days after crafting this list, Russell met Ciara.
Their whirlwind romance led to marriage by July 2016, followed by the joy of parenthood with three children: daughters Sienna and Amora, and son Winn. They also share parenting responsibilities with Ciara’s son Future from her previous relationship.
Wilson often expresses gratitude for his family life. “Having children, man, it’s been so cool,” he mused. “It really shows you what love is.” These days, amidst juggling his career and fatherhood, Russell seems to cherish these unplanned twists that have brought him profound happiness.
