Country star Mitchell Tenpenny and his wife Meghan Patrick reveal their secret to ‘keeping the spark alive’ (exclusive)
A Glimpse into the Lives of Mitchell Tenpenny and Meghan Patrick
It’s not every day you get a peek into the life of a country star couple like Mitchell Tenpenny and Meghan Patrick. They’ve let us in on one of their secrets to “keeping the spark alive” – it’s all about healthy competition and, honestly, some good-natured rivalry. They mentioned this in an interview where they shared bits of their lives.
I recall a moment Tenpenny shared: “When I wrote the song title down, it was a year or so ago,” he said. “I was on the West Coast, she was on the East Coast somewhere, and as cliché as it sounds I was like, ‘Look at the moon. It’s like we’re even closer than we are.’ And I wrote down that title and ended up writing that song.” It’s one of those moments that make you think about love across distances. Perhaps, it’s just me but there’s something special there.
In the song, Tenpenny sings, “Could be a thousand miles apart / Yeah, but it feels like our hearts are in the same room,” pouring his heart out to his significant other. His wife stars in the music video, with them acting as lovers – playing out their real-life connection on screen.
The couple’s story started back in 2017 and they tied the knot in October 2022. Their first date? Frisbee golf. “He really won me over because I am someone who loves sports, the outdoors and being competitive,” Patrick confessed. A match made over frisbees and friendly banter, maybe that’s part of their magic.
They joke about their truck preferences – Ford for Tenpenny, Chevy for Patrick. “We have a big rivalry in the house,” Tenpenny laughs. It’s all in good spirit though. Patrick added with a smile, “It is all friendly competition you got to have. It keeps the spark alive.”

Their careers demand attention too – both navigating through the country music scene since the 2010s. Tenpenny made his solo debut in 2015, while Patrick released her album a year later. This shared understanding of each other’s dreams forms part of their relationship’s foundation, Patrick mentioned once.
In between gigs and travel, they balance marriage and work with “a lot of communication and giving each other a lot of grace.” It’s not an easy feat; anyone juggling careers can tell you that.
Date nights, running errands together – they find time amidst it all. As Tenpenny put it, “The little chances you get, try to take advantage of it.” I guess we can all relate to that feeling of making the most of fleeting moments together.
